AirtableBackup vs Airtable's own snapshots
Airtable takes snapshots of every base on every plan and lets you restore one as a new, separate base. They are the baseline every backup product is measured against, and the only copy that includes everything in the base. They are also the only copy that lives inside Airtable.
Facts about Airtable's own snapshots were observed on Airtable's built-in base snapshots’s own pages on 2026-10-06. Where something could not be verified, the row says so.
| Airtable's own snapshots | AirtableBackup | |
|---|---|---|
| Price basis | Included in every Airtable plan. | $19 per base per month, flat. |
| Backup frequency | Automatic, "depends on usage patterns"; an active base gets at least one daily snapshot. Manual snapshots on demand. | Every change as it happens (live updates), plus a full backup every night, at every speed setting |
| Where the copy lives | Inside Airtable, under the same account. If the account, the workspace or the base is lost or locked, the snapshots go with it. | Outside Airtable, in the operator's AWS, under a deny-delete policy. Export to CSV needs no Airtable call at all, so it works during an Airtable outage. |
| Change history | None in a snapshot; Airtable's revision history is separate and is not included when a snapshot is restored. | Every change with a name on it. |
| Restore depth | A whole base, as a new base. Nothing smaller: not a table, a record or a field. | One change, one field, one record, a table at any moment, or a whole base into a new base; every restore undoable. |
| Automations, interfaces, forms | All restored with the base, exactly as they were. | Automations (with script source), forms and interface page metadata are saved and versioned; automations are shown for a person to recreate, not written back. Views and interface layouts are not backed up. |
| Retention | 2 weeks on Free, 1 year on Team, 2 years on Business, 3 years on Enterprise Scale. | The whole history for as long as the account is active; nothing is trimmed. |
| Restore proven automatically | No. | An opt-in nightly restore test. |

Fair is fair
Where snapshots are stronger
- Free, on every plan, with nothing to set up.
- A restored snapshot includes everything: automations, interfaces, extensions, views, tables, records and comments, as a new base. AirtableBackup cannot write automations back (Airtable's API creates them only as drafts and refuses script actions) and does not back up views or interface layouts at all.
- Retention on paid plans is long: one year on Team, two on Business, three on Enterprise Scale.
